Which card for which situation

The right choice depends on team size, workflow complexity, and how much you're prepared to pay per user.

šŸš€

Solo founder or early-stage startup

You need cards quickly, want to avoid monthly fees until you're sure the business is running, and don't have a finance team to manage a complex platform.

Growing team (5-30 people)

You're issuing cards to multiple employees, need department budgets, and want proper accounting sync without custom pricing conversations.

Start with: Pleo or Soldo

Finance team that manages invoices too

Cards are one piece of a larger finance workflow: you also need accounts payable, supplier invoices, approvals, and reimbursements in the same system.

Scale-up with ERP requirements

You're running NetSuite, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics, have multiple entities or countries, and need a spend platform that integrates properly rather than exporting CSVs.

Common questions

Pleo and Soldo both explicitly cover UK and EU markets. Moss, Spendesk, and Payhawk also operate across EU jurisdictions. Availability for specific countries varies by platform and sometimes by company size. If you're operating an Estonian OÜ or another EU-registered company, check directly with your chosen provider whether your country is currently supported for onboarding.
Most of these platforms are not banks and do not replace a business bank account. You top up or connect your existing account to fund the cards. Wise Business or Revolut Business are common choices for the underlying account, especially for EU-based remote companies. The expense card platform sits on top of, not instead of, your main business account.
All five platforms integrate with major accounting software including Xero and QuickBooks. Moss adds DATEV integration, making it a strong choice for companies working with German accounting standards. Payhawk's ERP integrations (NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) are the deepest in this group but are only relevant once you're running enterprise-grade financial infrastructure.
Policies vary by platform. Most allow virtual cards to be issued to non-employees in some form, but the terms around who qualifies as a user and what liability applies differ. Check each platform's current policy before assuming contractors can be added to a standard plan.
